Next the reader can recognize that he is becomingmore wild like when the author describes the way Jack is sitting Thendog-like, uncomfortably on all fours yet unheeding his discomfort, Nonormal boy or girl would do something that made them hurt if they didntknow it would. Finally it is recognized that Jack is almost totally ananimal when this quote is read Jack himself shrank at this cry with a hissof indrawn breath, and for a minute became less a hunter than a furtivething, ape-like among the tangle of trees.
